Tata Punch EV launched: Starting price Rs 10.99 lakh; here are the key features

On January 17, Tata Motors unveiled the much-anticipated Tata Punch EV, a small SUV, with a starting price of Rs 10.99 lakh. Tata Motors said the vehicle's certified driving range is 315 km and 421 km in two variants. It can accommodate five passengers. The new electric car has a ground clearance of 190 mm, which is relatively higher than other products in its category. The automobile will begin to be delivered on January 22.

It is presented as a direct competitor to the Citroen eC3. The Tata Punch EV will also compete with the likes of the MG Comet EV and Tata Tiago EV in the segment EV market.

While the starting price of the Tata EV Punch is Rs 10.99 lakh, the top-spec variant will cost you Rs 14.49 lakh.

Battery pack(s)

The Tata Punch EV will be sold with two battery options – 25 kWh and 35 kWh. It will offer customers two charging options: a 7.2 kW fast home charger (available exclusively for the LR variant) and a 3.3 kW wall charger.

The company said the 25 kWh battery pack will provide a MIDC range of 315 km, while the Punch EV Long Range version, which features a 35 kWh battery, will provide a MIDC range of 421 km.

The battery and motor are IP67-rated to protect against dust and water. The company will give a warranty of 8 years or 160,000 km (whichever comes first).

Driving options

With the new electric car, there are two electric driving options available.

  • A version with 120 horsepower and 190 Nm of torque
  • A version with 80 horsepower and 114 Nm of torque

Both are "permanent magnet asynchronous" motors.

It is worth noting here that the 120 hp version is exclusive to the long-range version.

The electric car has 16-inch diamond-cut wheels and disc brakes on all wheels. It features an LED light bar inspired by the Nexon facelift and has a similar bumper and grille design. Other key features include “split LED headlights integrated into the front bumper, a redesigned lower bumper with vertical slats, and a faux silver skid plate,” the company said. It will have a 360-litre boot and will also have a 14-litre front boot under the bonnet.

Security features

The new electric car will have standard features like 6 airbags, ABS, ESC, ESP, cruise control, and a 360-degree camera, which will only come with the highest specs.

The company described the new product as a qualitative shift in the journey of electric cars in India. They said it is the first product built on pure-electric Actiev architecture.

It will also have advanced wireless updates.

The company said the car has reinforced steel designed to improve safety. It added that it is possible to go from 0 to 100 in just 9.5 seconds and the battery pack warranty is 8 years.

Booking for the new car has opened in early January. The booking amount has been fixed at Rs 21,000.

The Tata Punch EV will be available in various color options including oxide dual-tone, seaweed dual-tone, white dual-tone, grey dual-tone, and red. The car also supports DC fast charging.
